Cast of Thousands (Austin TX)

Cast of Thousands is a 5-piece band from Austin, Texas established in late 2022 by songwriter Max Vandever. After taking a few years off from playing music and wanting to steer away from conventional rock ‘n’ roll methods, Vandever assembled the band as a vehicle for the new direction he was heading in. Drawing inspiration from bands like The Kinks, Teenage Fanclub, and Bedhead, the band’s distinct sound balances bright, intertwining guitar lines and playful keyboard melodies with delicate, memorable vocal hooks. Debut EP, First Six Songs, released in 2023, showcases Vandever’s penchant for forthright, heartfelt lyrics. Their full length debut, Third House, expands on similar themes but their upcoming EP, Useful People, is a little different production wise and lyrically. The recordings are clean and modern sounding, while the topics of the songs center around the high strangeness of living in a post World War 2 America.
